Who don't know the Volga River? Who didn't see its expanse and width, wealth and greatness, as the very Russian soul… Boundless expanse of the Volga is hard to imagine without sailing ships. During the last years sailing sport became very popular in Ulyanovsk; number of yachtsmen is growing bigger. Sportsmen from many cities of the Volga region take part in the traditional regatta, which is annually held by the local yacht-club. Many of them admire an excellent water area of Ulyanovsk and think about transferring here the capital of yacht sport.
On the bank of the Volga are situated beaches, along which is stretched out a stone embankment. People come here to relax, entertain, sit in quite or admire the sunset. And in summer months for all who wish the motor ship "Moscovsky-20" makes a one-hour sail along the bank. A fascinating journey on the ship along the great river will take you a great pleasure and strike you with amazing landscapes and sunsets. Water sporting holidays are annually held in the area of the river port, yacht-club and the city beach.

Extension of the Volga at the territory of the region is more than 200 km, with an outlet to five seas. That is why the largest river ports are Ulyanovsk and Sengiley. Ulyanovsk port was reconstructed in 1961. Ulyanovsk river port, as all ports at the water reservoir, is protected with a concrete breakwater. River station is built of concrete, glass and mosaic. An asphalted square in front of it is lined with an accurate pattern of green lawns. The local authorities do everything to revive Ulyanovsk river port.

An embankment in the river port smoothly turns into a poured sand beach, where are arranged summer cafes, opened a hire of boats, launches and beach equipment, and is situated the city yacht-club. The local authorities do everything in the past years to equip and develop the embankment and the central beach.

It is equipped with powerful portal cranes, excavators, special autoloaders, carriers, which allow working with thousand of tons of different freights. Till 1934 all cargo handling operations in Ulyanovsk port were fulfilled by hands. During the Great Patriotic War labor of river workers was especially hard. Along with freight they sent to Stalingrad defenders many ammunition and equipment.

To the river port for navigation period are attached passengers motor ships "Krylov" and "Dimitrov", working for tourist's routes. Water craft such as "OM" and with hydrofoils ("Meteor" and "Cometa") navigate on local lines. River cruises are organized along the Volga River from May to September.

Ulyanovsk Yacht-club is situated not far from the river port. It includes a dozen of yachts on which our sportsmen take part in sailing regatta. Paradox of Ulyanovsk yachting is in fact that, being an organizer of a rather prestigious championship of the country - "Cup of the Volga" - in Ulyanovsk there is even no building of the yacht-club. The yacht-club itself is situated at the small area with hangars, fenced in from one another.
